Ebrahim Raisi, the late president of Iran, was buried on Thursday in a tomb at the holy shrine of Iman Reza. The shrine is considered the holiest site in Muslim-majority Iran. Raisi’s burial ceremony was attended by thousands of mourners who thronged the streets to pay their last respects to the leader. The 63-year-old died on Tuesday alongside Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian when the chopper they were traveling in crashed in the country’s mountainous northern region. Six other people also lost their lives in the helicopter crash. Raisi was seen by many as a possible candidate to replace Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The 85-year-old Khamenei is the most powerful person in the country. Mohammad Mokber is the New Iranian Acting President Clad mostly in black clothing, the mourners at the funeral service beat their chests and heads as signs of their sorrow. This is a common practice in Shiite mourning traditions. As a vehicle carrying Raisi’s body moved down a street, mourners could be seen reaching out to touch it while others gently threw scarves and flowers at it seeking a blessing. The Imam Reza holy shrine, where the late president’s remains were interred, is also the resting place of Imam Ali al-reza, a 9th-century Islamic scholar. Despite this show of public mourning, some sections of the Iranian society celebrated their president’s death. Some Iranians developed a dislike for the late politician in 2022 after his security forces conducted brutal crackdowns on crowds who were protesting the Mahsa Amini. Amini died in police custody after getting arrested for allegedly not wearing the mandatory headscarf that women in the country are required to have in public. There have been images on social media showing people in the country sharing sweets after hearing that Raisi had died. Meanwhile, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei named Vice President Mohammad Mokber as acting president of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The 68-year-old has largely played his role behind the scenes until his immediate boss’s death thrust him into the limelight. Mokber will serve in the capacity for 50 days before formal elections are held in the country.
London Boy Who Succumbed to Leukemia Set to be the Catholic Church’s First Millenial Saint
Carlo Acutis, a boy from London who was born in 1991 is set to become the Roman Catholic Church’s first ever millennial saint. Carlo succumbed to Leukaemia in 2006 when he was aged 15. Since his death, he has been known as informally as ‘God’s Influencer.’ Now, the Vatican has announced that Pope Francis has approved Carlo to become a saint. The boy was born in London. His mother was Italian, while his father was half-English and half-Italian. The dad was working in the United Kingdom as a banker. According to the boy’s mother, Antonia Salazo, Carlo had a habit of offering support to any of his classmates who were going through hardships in life. He would also defend disabled children from bullies and would feed homeless people all over his hometown. His mother added that after his death a short period after being diagnosed with leukemia, Carlo said to his parents that he was happy to die without wasting even a single moment of it engaged in activities that would not be pleasing in the eyes of God. In the catholic faith, adherents are told to pray to dead loved ones whom they believe are in heaven. If they pray to a dead person and they get answered with a miracle, then the dead person can begin the process of becoming a saint. The first step in this process is beatification. After beatification, the deceased person is given the title of ‘Blessed.’ Acutis became ‘Blessed’ in the year 2020 after the Vatican said that it was satisfied that he had saved another boy’s life through a miracle. Statue of Carlo Acutis According to claims by the Vatican, Acutis intervened from heaven in 2013 and cured a Brazilian boy who had been suffering from a rare ailment in his pancreas. After this apparent heavenly miracle, Acutis was beatified in the town of Assisi. Assisi is the hometown of St Francis of Assisi, who is said to have dedicated his life to the care of the poor. To become a saint, there has to be a second miracle. According to the Vatican, Acutis’ second miracle occurred in 2022. In the miracle, according to claims by Catholic officials, a 21-year-old girl from Costa Rica recovered from a severe brain injury after an accident. According to reports, the injured woman by the name of Valeria Valverde underwent an emergency brain operation to reduce pressure after a cycling accident. The doctors told her family that she was in a critical condition, prompting her mother to go pray at Acutis’ tomb. According to the Catholic Church, that same day, the woman in a critical condition managed to breathe on her without assistance from machines. She later was able to start speaking again and also regained the use of her upper limbs. Doctors conducted brain scans, which showed the swelling in her brain had disappeared miraculously. Ten days later, the completely healed woman was discharged from the hospital. After the announcement, the Catholic faithful are now flocking to the boy’s tomb for prayers.
Epl Managers That Could Be on the Move, or Have Already Secured New Jobs
The current English Premier League Season is already over, with Manchester City lifting the league title. The only remaining contest is the FA Cup final, which will pit Manchester City against Manchester United. As such, clubs, managers, and players are already looking for changes and improvements for next season. Chelsea, for example, has already parted ways with manager Mauricio Pochettino and will be looking to appoint a new man to lead them forward. Several other managers will also be looking for new jobs. Mauricio Pochettino Despite a pretty positive conclusion to the end of Chelsea’s season, Todd Boehly and the club’s board decided to part ways with Pochettino. Mauricio Pochettino The team lost only one of their last 14 league games, but this wasn’t considered good enough because of their stuttering form during the long campaign. They ended sixth on the league table, leading to the lovable Argentine tactician’s departure. Poch has a good reputation as a manager, and his CV has already seen him get linked to the likes of Manchester United, and clubs from the Saudi Arabia Pro league. He was also linked to the vacant Bayern Munich job, but that has been snapped up by former Burnley manager, Vincent Kompany. Muricio Pochettino is Looking for a New Club Thomas Tuchel The German tactician was brought in mid-season at Bayern Munich to replace his Compatriot Julian Nagelsmann. However, things did not go according to plan, with the Bavarian giants failing to lift the Bundesliga title for the first time since 2012. They finished a massive 18 points behind eventual champions, Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern and Tuchel decided as early as February that a parting of ways was inevitable at the end of the season. Tuchel is known as a fiery character. Despite lifting the Champions League trophy at the first time of asking while managing Chelsea, his time there ended on a sour note. His worsening relationship with the club’s management, the players, and even football officials ended with him getting sacked. While ending trophyless at a club like Bayern Munich would surely tarnish a manager’s reputation, Tuchel is still being linked to clubs such as Manchester United. The English club could make a move for him should they decide to dispense off the services of coach Eric Ten Hag, who himself is under immense pressure after a disastrous league season. Thomas Tuchel is Looking for a New Club After Leaving Bayern Munich Thomas Tuchel David Moyes The 61-year-old Scot parted ways mutually with West Ham at the end of the season. He is one of the most experienced managers in the Premier League, and as such could be a man in demand. Moyes has already intimated that he wants to continue his career in management, saying “I want to keep involved in football…do I want to stay in management? Yes, would be the answer to that.” Moyes is yet to be linked with any club, but it is surely a matter of time before he finds himself in the dugout. David Moyes is One of the Most Experienced Managers David Moyes Roberto De Zerbi The Italian tactician has been a hit since taking over at Brighton. He plays an exciting brand of football, which has seen him linked to other clubs in the past. When Jurgen Klopp announced his departure from Liverpool, De Zerbi was one of the names mentioned as a possible successor at Anfield. That was before De Zerbi and the Brighton hierarchy had a falling out about how the club should conduct their transfer business, and the Italian coach left the club with mutual consent. He is one of the names that has been linked to the vacant manager’s job at Chelsea, and could also possibly head to Manchester United should the Red Devils decide to part ways with Eric Ten Hag. He has also been linked to Italian giants, AC Milan. Francesco Farioli Farioli is Roberto De Zerbi’s former goalkeeping coach, before joining Aalanyaspor, and then French club Nice and guiding them to a fifth-place finish in Ligue 1 in his first season. At just 35, Farioli is now considered as one of the most promising managers in Europe. He has been linked with the now vacant manager’s job at Brighton, where he could replace his former mentor. The only blot on his resume is his reputation as a defensive-minded tactician, which might fly in the face of fans who want to see their teams playing fast-paced, and attack-minded football. He has also been linked to Ajax Amsterdam, who are also in the market for a new tactician after an extremely disappointing season. Farioli has been Linked to Brighton Francesco Farioli Kieran McKenna Mckenna led Ipswich to a second automatic promotion. The club was 12th on the table when he joined in December 2021, and the incredible upturn in fortune has made him one of the most coveted young managers in the game. The 38-year-old’s success at Ipswich has won him the League Manager’s Association Manager of the Year gong, further cementing his place as a top managerial prodigy. He has been linked with the vacant job at Chelsea, and also at his former club Manchester United, where he was an assistant for Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Soslkjaer, and Ralf Rangnick. Typically, top English clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester United do not appoint managers who do not have at least a few years of management at the top flight, but the Scot could be the one to buck that trend. He has also been linked with Brighton, and they could be a better fit for him as they have a history of signing young, but inexperienced managers. Kieran Mckenna is one of the Most Exciting Young Managers In Europe Kieran Mckenna Vincent Kompany Vincent Kompany got Burnley Relegated last season, after an excellent 2022-23 season in which they won the championship and got promoted to the English top flight. So Sad: An ECDE Pupil Perished in Kilifi Due to Strong Winds
An Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learner in Kaloleni, Kilifi County has succumbed to death after being hit by a flying metal panel propelled by the strong winds in the Coastal area of Kenya. Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro commissioned a one-week closure of all ECDE centers to watch over the situation in the county. The sudden closure of schools in Kilifi happened at a time when learning for grades seven and eight was paralyzed all over the country. This is due to the ongoing teachers’ strike which is going on despite the president’s absence from the country, as he is on a state visit to the U.S. Five ECDE learners from Gogoraruhe Mosque ECDE School, sustained several injuries after a flying iron sheet struck them amid strong winds caused by Cyclone Ialy. The pupils were rushed to Mariakani Sub County Hospital, where the four-year-old girl tragically passed away due to her injuries during medical care. The remaining four pupils had head and limb injuries and are still receiving their treatment. Kilifi County Governor, Gideon Mung’aro, who spoke after the incident said that the school’s parking lot, vehicles, and classrooms were damaged. He also said that the winds were too strong to the extent of pulling down trees and electric posts and leaving many people displaced. Several houses along the Kenyan coast were damaged and an unknown number of people were displaced on Tuesday, May 21, after the predicted cyclone hit the region. The Red Cross Organization asked residents in the coastal region to take necessary measures to avoid becoming victims of the strong winds. This comes weeks after the Kenya Meteorological Department had earlier announced that Cyclone Hidaya is expected to weaken in the Kenyan Coast. strong winds destroying a roof The Red Cross stated that electric posts in Casuarina, Olimpia, Madunguni in Malindi, and Garashi in Magarini, Kilifi County, fell, while two other posts in Jilore Trading Centre caught fire. According to the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre, Cyclone Hidaya is a moderate tropical storm that reaches peak speeds of 165 kph and can double the rainfall intensity. Tropical Cyclone Hidaya was predicted to occur in the coastal regions of Kenya and Tanzania. Kilifi North Deputy County Commissioner, Samuel Mutisya, advised the residents to refrain from the beaches and avoid resting in shade under trees in the area that could easily fall due to the strong winds. Mutisya stated that the effects of the winds are already occurring, including the blowing away of the parking lot at the county commissioner’s office, which resulted in the damage of one of the government vehicles. Residents were urged to call the county emergency number 1535 for a fast response to any disasters or emergencies.
Finding Employment Opportunities for Newcomers in the United States
Stepping off a plane in the United States as a newcomer might be exciting, but the job search can quickly become daunting. Many immigrants, such as recently arrived Kenyan women, find that their education and expertise do not easily convert into American positions. Her tale, on the other hand, shows important industries for newcomers to explore, providing a springboard for career development. A potential career path is working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in caregiving, particularly for elderly individuals. Obtaining a CNA certification typically takes around a month and can lead to immediate work opportunities. However, it’s important to note that caregiving requires patience and understanding as you will be assisting older adults with their daily activities at their own pace, some of whom may have dementia. A Kenyan woman found this to be a convenient option, but she also experienced some issues while working with an elderly care service, such as inconsistent transportation since visits often required travel to clients’ homes. Immigrants listening to a speech Moreover, the physically and emotionally demanding nature of the job, which includes lifting and assisting with personal care, may not be suitable for everyone. As the Kenyan woman realized, it’s crucial to select a career that aligns with your skills and personality. Working in human services, particularly in residential programs or educational settings for young people with mental disorders such as autism, might be a better fit for her. The emphasis turns to aiding teenagers and children with everyday routines, providing encouragement, and advice, and facilitating involvement in various activities. While she recognizes the inherent challenges, she finds it extremely rewarding for those who have a real desire to nurture and encourage people of all abilities. A bonus: human services jobs frequently include advantages such as transportation and meals, making them logistically convenient for newcomers navigating unfamiliar surroundings. The essential takeaway is that immigrants should be willing to pursue numerous entry-level employment, particularly in caregiving and human services. These industries provide valuable experiences that can be translated into future professions. You’ll make relationships, achieve financial security, and, most importantly, learn how to settle in a new nation. The United States, a nation of opportunity for many, welcomes thousands of newcomers each year. Immigrants now account for a sizable section of the population, contributing to the country’s variety. However, for these folks, achieving the American dream is frequently linked to finding a rewarding career. It’s more than just making a living; it’s about establishing themselves, collecting vital experiences, and planting roots. Unfortunately, young immigrants under the age of 30 frequently struggle to fit their skill sets with accessible possibilities. This might result in underemployment or even unemployment, which is frustrating for people willing to contribute. Newcomers interested in starting a profession can look at fields including caregiving and human services. These areas can serve as a good beginning point for them, allowing them to develop the skills and information necessary to pursue their long-term professional aspirations. It’s crucial to remember that obtaining the American dream requires time and perseverance. As a result, adopting deliberate steps is essential for fresh arrivals to discover their way to success.

Safe Weight Loss Tips for Kenyans: A Comprehensive Guide
While losing weight can be a challenging journey, with the right approach, it can be incredibly rewarding. For Kenyans looking to shed some extra kilograms safely and effectively, there are several main strategies and factors to keep in mind. For instance, you need to adopt healthy eating habits and incorporate regular physical activity into your daily routine to succeed. Here are some tried-and-tested strategies and tips that can help you achieve your weight loss goals without too much difficulty. Start with Realistic Goals Before you embark on any weight loss journey, it’s critical that you set certain realistic and achievable goals. Instead of aiming for a drastic transformation overnight, you should focus on making gradual, changes to your lifestyle that are also sustainable. Aim to lose 1 kilogram per week, as this is considered a safe and sustainable rate of weight loss. In other words, you should set small, achievable goals that will keep you motivated and help you maintain your progress in the long run. Prioritize Nutrition Nutrition plays a crucial role in weight loss success. Avoid crash diets or extreme fasting and focus on nourishing your body with wholesome, nutrient-dense foods. In Kenya, there are several traditional dishes such as ugali, Githeri, Mokimo, seafood, traditional vegetables, and ngwashe, which are popular staples. While these foods can be enjoyed in moderation, it’s important to incorporate a variety of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains into your diet for ideal health and weight management. Food on different plates Food Portion Control Apart from settling for nutritious foods, you should also pay attention to the portion sizes you partake per sitting in order to lose weight. Unfortunately, the Kenyan cuisine often features generous portions, which can contribute to overeating. Therefore, it’s upon you to be mindful of serving the right sizes and listening to your body’s hunger cues. Always try to fill half of your plate with vegetables, some lean protein, and some whole grains or starchy vegetables such as sweet potatoes. Aim to eat smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day as it helps curb hunger pangs and prevent overeating. Stay Hydrated Drink an adequate amount of water for overall good health, which can also help support your weight loss efforts. Additionally, keep yourself hydrated always as water helps flush out toxins, aids digestion, and helps curb cravings. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day, and if possible, exchange the sugary beverages you love so much such as soda and juice for herbal tea or just water. Add some lemon or cucumber slices to your water to enhance its flavor without adding extra calories. Man drinking water Be Active Engage in regular physical activity to help burn calories, build lean muscle, and improve your overall fitness. You can easily incorporate exercise into your daily routine without doing anything complicated or time-consuming. Spend at least 30 minutes of moderate-intense exercise at least four to five times a week. This could include taking a brisk walk, jogging, cycling, dancing, or even participating in group fitness classes. Find activities that you enjoy during your free time and make them a regular part of your schedule. Have Enough Sleep Get enough quality sleep to facilitate your weight loss efforts and boost your overall health. Lack of sleep can disrupt your body’s hormone levels, reduce motivation to exercise, and increase cravings for unhealthy foods. Sleep for about 6-8 hours uninterrupted each night, and establish a particular bedtime routine that can help signal the body that it’s bedtime. Before bed, avoid stimulants such as caffeine and electronics that can lower your sleep quality. Manage Stress Chronic stress can sabotage weight loss efforts as it triggers emotional eating and disrupts hormone balance. Find healthy ways to manage stress for your physical and mental well-being. Incorporate stress-reducing activities into your daily routine, such as spending time in nature, meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises. Additionally, try various self-care activities that bring you joy and relaxation, such as reading a book, taking a bath, or spending time with loved ones. Lady sleeping Seek Support Because the weight loss journey can be challenging, try not to go it alone. Seek support from close friends, family members, or a professional coach who can offer you the encouragement, accountability, and guidance you need every step of the way. Join a weight loss support group or online community where you can connect with others who are on a similar journey. Share your experiences, challenges, and successes with others to help keep you motivated and inspired. Be Patient and Tenacious Remember that weight loss is a journey, not a destination. While there will be ups and downs along the way, consistency and persistence are your pillars of support. Celebrate your progress, no matter how small, and be kind to yourself if you experience setbacks. Make sustainable lifestyle changes that you can maintain for the long term, and avoid pursuing quick fixes or fad diets. If you’re dedicated, patient, and able to persevere, you can achieve your weight loss goals and enjoy a healthier, happier life. Final Thoughts Safe weight loss requires that you adopt a balanced approach that includes nutritious eating, regular physical activity, adequate sleep, stress management, and support from others. You simply need to make small, sustainable changes to your lifestyle in order to achieve lasting results that will improve your overall health. Remember to be patient with yourself, stay focused on your goals, and celebrate your progress along the way.
Activist Okiya Omtatah Moves to Court to Block Mps From Debating Finance Bill, Faces Backlash From Uda Lawmakers
Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has moved to court to block lawmakers from discussing and ratifying the taxation proposals made by President William Ruto’s government for the 2024/25 budget. According to Omtatah and his counterpart Eliud Karanja, parliament has erred in focusing on the finance bill for the year 2024/25, before debating and approving the Appropriations Act, 2024. This goes against the laid-out procedure. The Appropriation Act is currently in parliament. Its approval by the National Assembly is important for financing the Kenya Kwanza government’s sh3.9 trillion budget for the financial year starting in July. The bill had its first reading in parliament on May 13th. If the National Assembly passes the new taxation proposals, the Value Added Tax (VAT) on bread will be increased. Additionally, there will be an increase in excise taxes on M-pesa transactions, airtime, bank transfers, cigarettes, and spirits. The Ruto government is trying to raise an additional sh 323 billion in the next financial year, starting in July. A 16 percent VAT on bread will increase the cost of a 400g loaf by at least 10 shillings. In the bill, there is also a proposal for introducing a 2.5 percent motor vehicle circulation tax. Here, owners of motor vehicles will cough up to ksh100,000 annually to keep driving their cars on Kenyan roads. Jane Kagiri who Criticised Omtatah Omtatah Getting Pushback from Ruto Loyalists UDA lawmakers and loyalists have not taken kindly to Omtatah going to court. Laikipia Women Rep, Jane Kagiri has accused the Busia Senator of misleading the people of Kenya on the Finance Bill. According to Ms. Kagiri, Omtatah’s claims that the Finance Bill was introduced prematurely for debate in the National Assembly are, “patently false and misleading.” Omtatah is Not New to Controversy This is not the first time the activist has moved to court against the government. Three weeks ago, he was in court to end the mobile termination rates (MTR) that have been introduced by the government through the Communications Commission of Kenya. The rates were introduced last year in November. According to Omtatah, the new rates are arbitrary and among the highest in the East African region. Setting the new MTR charges in November, the CCK announced that the new rates will be sh0.41 per minute, a reduction from the previous sh 0.58 per minute. But according to the Busia lawmaker, the rate is still seven times over the recommended rate of sh 0.06. MTR are the charges a telecommunication company levies on its competitors when they end their calls on its network.

Kenyan Mountain Climber Who Went Missing on Mount Everest Found Dead
A Kenyan mountain climber who went missing on a mission to climb Mount Everest without supplementary oxygen was found dead on Thursday morning. Cheruiyot was on a mission to test human capacity by climbing the tallest mountain in the world. The daring climber, together with his guide had gone above 8,000 meters when they lost communication. His lifeless body was later found in the ‘death zone,’ an area which is above 8,000 meters. According to Everest Today reports, Cheruiyot’s body was found above the mountain’s summit. In their condolence message to the family, Everest Today recognizes Cheruiyot’s indomitable will and passion for mountain climbing as inspiration. Cheruiyot with his mountain guide, Mr Nawang Sherpa lost contact with the Bishop Rock zone. The two were missing for several hours before Cheruiyot’s body was found. However, Sherpa is still missing, and his fate was unknown as of Thursday morning. Cheruiyot taking a selfie while climbing Mount Everest Cheruiyot’s Last Moments and Determination The 40-year-old Cheruiyot was a banker at Kenya Commercial Bank and a dedicated mountain climber. He was accomplished and enthusiastic, having successfully reached the peak of Mount Everest more than ten times before dying in the heroic mission. Cheruiyot was well prepared for the mission both physically and emotionally. His social media posts earlier showed how much he was looking forward to accomplishing the mission. Part of the posts read: “Finally. Tonight we head up. Summit Rotation. After 10 Basecamp days. But there were parties in honor of successful summits.” The mountain climber was also well aware of the risks that awaited him in the mission. He clearly outlined the risks he was likely to face and how he was prepared to tackle them. “My plan a no-oxygen attempt comes with its special preparations and risks, physically my body is ready. On the other risks, I’m taking the following measures; Cold Without oxygen one is much more susceptible to frostbite. So I have; Hands: A pair of heated gloves, a pair of heated mittens with a spare set of batteries. Climbers at Mount Everest Feet: Two pairs of heated socks with a spare set of batteries.MedsI’m susceptible to HAPE so I’m armed with Nifedipine. For HACE I have Dexamethasone. And Acetazolamide. Manaslu taught me well, having had an episode of HAPE and no meds.” While others have successfully climbed Mount Everest without oxygen, they usually turn to air back up once they reach above sea level (6,000 meters). For Cheruiyot, having supplementary oxygen would not be a good challenge. Cheruiyot was determined to see how well her body could cope under the extreme altitudes. Unfortunately, his pursuit to test the limitations of the human body ended in his death. A Romanian climber Gabriel Tavara who was also on the ill-fated mission was found dead inside Camp III on Tuesday.
