A desire to own a home at affordable prices defines every Kenyan’s dream. Homeownership comes with pride, comfort, freedom, and security. However, owning a home seems farfetched to many because houses are costly. Mortgage firms provide various home loan products. Home loans or mortgages are categorized according to the repayment periods, interest rates, the borrower’s age, and specific loan products. How to Qualify for a Mortgage in Kenya One must first consider some factors necessary to acquire a home loan and start by finding the appropriate home. The cost is attributable to the size of the house, the number of rooms, the neighborhood, and proximity to essential services and amenities. Secondly, the applicant must pool the requisite deposit as demanded by the lender. The price of the house, location and your credit rating based on past performance determine the deposit payable. If you have a history of default, you are considered risky and the bank applies high rates and deposits to cushion. A man holding a small house Thirdly, your ability to pay matters. The lender assesses your ability by considering your current income and whether it can support the current liabilities inclusive of the anticipated instalments and the requisite down payment. The fourth consideration involves choosing the right lender. This approach involves comparing various lenders and products offered by each. You can make comparisons by making inquiries. It is advisable to go through the various mortgage products and interests offered by any given lender. Fifthly, you should maintain a good credit rating. The credit history of past and existing loans defines your credit scores and you should always maintain a clean record by paying liabilities on time. You should provide honest information regarding the borrowing history. A higher rating is favorable in getting approval and helps you negotiate lower interest rates. Tips on Choosing a Good Mortgage Lender in Kenya Shopping for mortgage lenders is often a complex and tiresome process, what with mortgage brokers. Here are essential guidelines. Two people searching online for morgage lenders Get to know the mortgage company and their track record. Appraise their loan officers bearing in mind that experienced loan officers are confident and understand their roles. The officer should provide all the necessary information at their fingertips and avoid back-and-forth referrals. They should let you let you choose and guide you on convenient products from their various offerings. The cost of credit is a core consideration in any loan. It includes interest, commitment fees, insurance, and other external costs involved. The lender should furnish the total cost of the loan at the initial stages to enable you to make informed choices. Consider the Rates of several lenders before deciding on the right fit. You should take care of terms and conditions usually in small print such as variation of interest rates which may lead to increased installments in the future. Shop around for fairly priced lenders. If you want to strike a good mortgage interest rate deal, look for several options before moving forward with a particular lender. Ensure your preferred lender is flexible and can accommodate your needs. Go with a lender with good service reviews if you are split between lenders who offer the same interests.
Revised Half-Term Dates for Schools Compensating for Lost Learning Period
The Ministry of Education has announced new half-term dates affecting primary and secondary school learners. As per the revised dates, learners will break for the mid-term break from 26 June to 28 June 2024. Learners in boarding schools are expected to report back from the break on 30 June 2024. Initially, learners were set to break for their mid-term between 20th June and 24th June 2024. The ministry has taken the initiative to revise the dates to compensate for the lost learning period. Part of the statement on the new dates for the half-term break The Principal Secretary of Education Belio Kipsang, directed County Directors of Education to communicate the changes to school heads. He noted that the changes may require adjustments to the activities and schedules of various schools. The changes in mid-term break dates are an effort by the government to compensate for the lost learning period affected by flooding in various parts of the country. School opening was initially scheduled for April 29, 2024, but the dates were postponed as a precautionary measure to protect learners from the heavy rains. Learners reported to school two weeks later, on May 13th, 2024, after the weather forecasters confirmed that the weather was conducive to learners’ movement. The revision of school mid-term breaks also brings to Kenyans the question of whether the second-term learning period will be extended. While this was not discussed in the current statement, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ezekiel Machogu had earlier declared that the second term would be extended for an unspecified period. Learners in class Machogu stated that the extension was necessary to allow schools to adequately cover the syllabus, especially for candidates sitting for exams this year. He hinted that the schools might not close for three weeks in August as earlier planned. However, the national examination dates will not change. Meanwhile, JSS learners are still on their own despite the government’s measures to compensate for the lost learning period. The JSS teachers’ strike continues as learners take the initiative to study independently or seek help from their former teachers in their respective primary schools. There could be hope for the resumption of learning in JSS after the Committee on Education and Research recommended that the 26,000 JSS intern teachers be employed on permanent terms. The teachers vowed to go back to school only when TSC confirms their permanent employment basis.

The Number of Churches Continues To Increase in Kenya Amid a Reduced Religious Following Globally
The high church growth rate in Kenya appears to contradict a general notion from the Western world that religion is fast fading with some experts putting timelines on the possible extinction of the church. However, these details only make sense in countries like Britain and other Western countries. In Kenya, the case is quite different going by the high number of churches coming up in the country. Churches Continue to Increase in Kenya Amid Uproar from Relevant Authorities Since the days of the first church in Kenya in the 18th century, Kenya has continued to register new churches that have grown since then. Today, the country has over 4000 churches spread in all parts of the country and this figure is likely to go up even further in the coming days. These churches however do not represent many Kenyans that are looking for salvation but rather many people that are looking for worshipers and believers. Church has become like a business in Kenya or at the very least, a legal get-rich-quick scheme. Cases like that of Pastor James Wanjohi a preacher now turned a conman who has defrauded innocent people with over 600 million Kenyan shillings strongly affirm this notion. Mr. Wanjohi and such masquerades establish churches in the country with the primary view of not offering spiritual nourishment but rather using it as a launch pad to their desired luxury life. These individuals are preying on many despondent and unsuspecting Kenyans who are laden with endless problems. These Kenyans turn to church in the hope of finding solutions to their problems as promised by the church only to end up disappointed in the end. Even worse, some of these churches operate in a cult-like manner with some going to extreme lengths of even ending lives. Such like was the case with one infamous man of God as he would prefer to be called McKenzie who ran what many people can only refer to as a cult in shkhahola. In his church, people lost lives under unclear circumstances and were buried within the premises of his church secretly. Pastor Mckenzie in police custody The revelation of these activities and discoveries that were made in his church shook the nation to the core making people from across the country doubt the motive and purpose of some churches in the country. The Kenyan Church Has Lost Credibility Even though the number of churches in the country continues to grow, the Kenyan church has completely lost credibility in the eyes of Kenyans. Many people now doubt whether some churches are actually what they claim to be as most of their activities speak to something else. Known religious leaders now do not shy and fear of engaging in some Ungodly activities that appear to contradict what they teach and what the bible says. What is surprising is that most of the pastors or so-called men of God who engage in some of these activities like immorality always have a line of defence whenever they are confronted to justify their wayward acts. It is such acts that have prompted public uproars among Kenyans with many of them calling for the regulation of the church. Kenyans want the church to adhere to a certain set of regulations that seek to protect and safeguard innocent believers who find themselves in the hands of some of these preying preachers. The Church Strongly Opposes Proposals to Regulate It by the Kenyan Government Amid rising cases of Ungodly activities happening in churches many of which have left innocent Kenyans either dead, hurt, or even conned off their hard-earned money, Kenyans have started to call for the regulation of the church in the country. Pastor Ezekeil in police custody However, the church has come out strongly to oppose such proposals terming them as deliberate attacks on the word and enactment of the will of God. They argue that some of the unlawful and Ungodly incidents and things seen in some of the Kenyan churches only happen in several churches the country and not all. In what is now seen to be the development of the famous “it is not everyone” line, the church in the country argues that everyone cannot be punished for the mistakes of the few. As such, they demand that the Government only deal with the few church leaders indicted of some of the heinous acts raised and not everyone. Kenyans Need Proper Sensitization about the Church The biggest enablers of the cult-like church following in Kenya are the Kenyans who are not firm and courageous enough to stand up and confront evil right in its face. A lot of what has been meted on innocent believers in the country like in Shakhahola could have easily been avoided had relevant members stood up early on and faced their church leaders early on. Bodies being exumed from Pastor Mackenzis property Unfortunately, that was not the case and is less likely to be in the future as churches do not make provisions for corrections or divergent opinions. Theirs is a firm authority that cannot be put to task by anyone as that amounts to questioning God according to them. Church members who attempt to do so are often threatened and intimidated with curses and other dire consequences used as weapons to silence them. As a result, many of them remain silent in the face of such ungodly church practices. Such cases highlight the importance of sensitizing Kenyans on their rights and empowering their voice to stand up against evil in the church. The Government and other stakeholders should invest their energy and resources in such initiatives as they are the only viable weapon that can be used to bring to halt evil practices in the Kenyan church at the moment.

A Woman Pretending To Be a Representative of Raila Conned a Bank CEO 25 Million Shillings
A Kenyan Woman, Faith Mwikali Ndiwa, has been arrested for scamming a bank CEO by claiming to be Raila’s personal doctor. Faith’s case, which is almost similar to the notorious 419 scam, consists of a fake KEMSA procurement deal. In a report given by investigators, Faith’s arrest resulted from a situation in May 2022, when Faith visited Guarantee Trust Bank and asked for a talk with the CEO. Faith requested help with some money advice from the CEO as she had some 70 million in her bank account, according to a statement from the bank CEO. The CEO gave Faith a piece of financial advice and told her to make her own decision.. Faith later returned to the bank, borrowing money which she stated that she needed to settle her mother’s medical bills. The CEO asked her about the 70 million which she said she had in her bank account. Faith, responding to the claims, stated that she used the money to buy a house in Karen. A clear photo of Faith The CEO, satisfied with the information from Faith, told her to visit the bank where she was given eight million Kenya Shillings loan. Faith called the CEO after a period of one month. This time round, she declared to be Raila Odinga’s representative, whom she stated that he had acquired a Ksh. 19 million procurement deal with Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) to provide them with permanent Insecticidal Nets (LLINs). Detectives stated that Faith showed them the contract, bill of lading documents and procurement deal documents to the complainant which were under the name of Raila Odinga for them to finish the deal. Faith stated that Ksh. 8 million was already cleared by Raila’s son in law, but the remaining amount was urgently required to unload the nets which were already pending at the Mombasa Port. A photo of Raila Odinga whom Faith claimed to be representing Faith guaranteed the CEO that once KEMSA disbursed money for the tender she would pay a portion of the profits. The complainant agreed to send the money to the suspect’s bank account after Faith assured him the loan would be repaid in a period of one month. Investigators later came to discover that Faith gave account numbers belonging to Al Husinaim Motors Limited, a motor vehicle company, where she bought a modern Range Rover motor vehicle, with registration number KDM 311N. After obtaining the required money, Faith immediately turned her phone off. This made the CEO suspect her and he immediately reported the case to the police. Further investigations by the detectives revealed that the KEMSA deal never existed. The detectives later came to discover that Faith had been involved in another similar case where she lied that she was working as a physician for the First Lady before the Nairobi DCI area. They later found that the job card which she had presented to them was a fake one. On Monday, May 28, 2024, Faith made a plea for seven criminal offenses when she was put on trial at the Milimani law courts. Faith, who is now at Lang’ata Women’s Prison, is awaiting her bail application hearing.
Catholic Priest Bites Woman During Holy Communion
Have you ever wondered whether a priest can bite you while celebrating the Holy Communion? A woman in Florida is now a victim and has blamed a priest of biting her during a communion service. According to Orlando Diocese, the woman whose identity was not disclosed, had attended a 10 a.m. service at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in St. Cloud on Sunday. A statement from the diocese stated that Rev. Fidel Rodriguez had a quick talk with the woman. He pointed out she hadn’t followed the correct steps for Communion. After that, he blessed her and told her to leave. The diocese reported that two hours later, she returned for the service and attempted to receive Communion again. Rodriguez requested about her Confession, which is needed for the Eucharist, the woman said, That’s none of your business. The church stated that Rodriguez, unaware of the woman’s background, gave her Holy Sacrament. The diocese noted that the woman aggressively placed her hand into the container and took some Lord’s Supper bread, crushing them. Rodriguez, limited to only one hand, had a hard time with the woman as she wouldn’t let go of the Holy Communion Bread. As per the church, the woman then pushed Rodriguez, causing him to bite her hand so she would release the hosts she had grabbed. The woman was requested to leave immediately. Police investigated what happened at the church in St. Cloud, which is around 30 miles south of Orlando. A priest giving sacrament According to the charging affidavit, Rodriguez was charged with battery. The woman informed the police that Rodriguez attempted to forcefully push the sacred host when he got frustrated with her for not completing the necessary steps for Communion. The woman claimed in the report that he grasped and gnawed her arm while she was trying to get a wafer from him. As per the police report, Rodriguez claimed she initiated the attack, and he was attempting to maintain the holiness of the Lord’s Supper. He told the police that the woman pushed him and wouldn’t give up the tray. He explained that he had to resort to biting her arm because he couldn’t find any other way to get her to release it, according to the police report. The police reported that there was video footage of the incident from witnesses. According to the Diocese of Orlando, they don’t approve of physical altercations like this one, but they believe Father Rodriguez was acting in good faith to protect the Holy Communion from being desecrated. The diocese said that it’s not something that can be demanded arbitrarily by someone, and it’s certainly not just a cookie like the person who complained called it. The affidavit stated that the woman declined medical attention, and the police photographed the bite mark. The St. Cloud Police have sent the summary of the affidavit’s events to the State Attorney’s Office for evaluation. The Ninth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office stated to CNN on Friday that they have received the case and are now evaluating it to decide what actions to take next.
